Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis)

Liquid gold. It’s the perfect description of jojoba oil – ideal for all skin types and combinations – and precisely why it’s formulated in both Joy Moy® Ultimate and Essential BioBotanical™ Face Elixirs.

Jojoba is one of the most versatile oils because it mimics the skin’s sebum (a substance produced by sebaceous glands that coats, moisturizes and protects your skin), making jojoba easily absorbed by the skin. It is an excellent moisturizer and helps restore and maintain the integrity of the epidermis, the skin’s natural barrier against bacteria, viruses, and other extrinsic factors. Jojoba is also a non-irritant and anti-inflammatory, meaning that it is very well tolerated by all skin types as well as sensitive or inflamed skin conditions, such as acne and rosacea.

The beauty of Jojoba helps balance the activity of the sebaceous glands to prevent both dehydration and the overproduction of sebum. Jojoba is also beneficial for other troubled skin conditions, such as psoriasis, because it has natural antimicrobial, antioxidant and antifungal properties. It is especially beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin not only because it moisturizes and protects without clogging pores, but also because it absorbs into the pores, where it loosens up excessive oil, dead skin cells, and debris.

Jojoba is ideal for all skin types and combinations is because it is relatively non-comedogenic, as long as it is pure and not sulfated. It is also non-irritant and anti-inflammatory, meaning that it is very well tolerated by all skin types and inflamed or sensitive skin conditions, like acne and rosacea. It is even gentle enough for babies’ skin and is often used in baby care products.
It is especially beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin not only because it moisturizes and protects without clogging pores, but also because it absorbs into the pores, where it loosens up excessive oil, dead skin cells, and debris. This process not only facilitates the gentle cleansing of the skin and pores without stripping the skin’s natural lipid barrier, but it also helps balance the activity of the sebaceous glands to prevent both dehydration and the overproduction of sebum. It is also beneficial for other skin conditions, such as psoriasis, because it has natural antimicrobial, antioxidant and antifungal properties.

Black Seed / Black Cumin Seed (Nigella Sativa)

It’s called the “Miracle Seed” for good reason. Dating back centuries to Southeastern Asia, Nigella Sativa – also known as black seed or black cumin seed – has been deemed the super seed used for medicinal purposes for overall health when ingested (but don’t even think about drinking it in a skincare product).

When properly formulated in skincare, black seed works specifically as an anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial, which all greatly benefit skin in a multitude of ways. If you want to geek out, check out the study that explains how black seed may help reduce cases of acne.

Coconut Monoï (Cocos Nucifera + Gardenia Taitensis)

Coconut monoï (pronounced “mah-NOY”) in Tahitian means “scented oil.” But there are no words to accurately describe nature’s pristinely pure potion with soul-soothing scent. Think remote tropical island – sweet, subtle, spiritual.

Coconut monoï is created when virgin coconut oil is infused with snow-white petals of Tahitian gardenias. It provides exceptional anti-aging, anti-oxidant, skin-protecting properties while releasing a distinct aroma native to Tahiti. Perhaps the scent is reminiscent of care-free beach days, but you’ve never experienced virgin cold-pressed coconut monoï perfectly formulated in Joy Moy® Essential BioBotanical™ Face Elixir.

By applying coconut monoï oil daily to your face, you’ll follow a long-standing tradition with Polynesians who, to this day, cherish this oil for its nourishing and beautifying qualities. This truly organic, non-greasy formula by Joy Moy® is a necessary daily luxury for the skin and senses.

Coconut monoï may help protect against certain skin conditions since coconut oil is an anti-bacterial and highly saturated in fatty acids. Fatty acids contain anti-microbial properties that may protect against harmful bacteria known to cause a number of skin infections and may help reduce acne, eczema and contact dermatitis. Monoï is also hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. For more coconut monoï info, click the link to the first source.

Virgin coconut oil in coconut monoï can help retain moisture on the skin to protect against dryness, bacteria and promote healing of the skin. Want more proof? Below is a study by researchers on anti-inflammatory and skin protective benefits of virgin coconut oil, and its results supporting virgin coconut oil’s inclusion in skin care products (see second source).

Red Ginseng (Panax Ginseng)

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), ginseng is a medicinal herb in root form that’s been widely used for centuries. It is harvested throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. High quality ginseng can cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars per pound.

Ginseng has been long-studied for its anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. Specifically, panax ginseng and ginsenosides – included in both Joy Moy® Face Elixirs – have been clinically shown to prevent the aging of skin when used topically.

Clinical trials have shown that ginseng extract actually improved facial wrinkling and it can protect against UV radiation-induced skin damage from the sun. Here’s just one recent study on the anti-aging effects of ginseng in skincare.

Baobab (Adansonia Digitata)

It is called “The Pharmacy Tree” in Africa and locals utilize every part of the baobab tree. Its fruit, leaves, seeds and oil processed from the seeds are used in supplements, food and even skin care. The baobab fruit and seeds contain several essential minerals and vitamins, such as Vitamin A, B, E, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and potassium.

Baobab oil’s plethora of antioxidants can help preserve skin’s collagen by locking in moisture for soft skin and combating free radicals, therefore, keeping lines and signs of aging at bay by protecting against collagen breakdown.

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, baobab oil also contains palmitic acid, oleic acid, linolenic acid and linoleic acid. Clinical research shows these compounds provide a multitude of benefits for the skin, which includes: moisturizing, preventing water loss from skin, softening skin, improving skin’s texture, improving skin elasticity, helping repair the skin’s barrier to help skin heal more quickly and helping to reduce inflammation.

A clinical trial found baobab oil may help improve acne in some people since it is high in linoleic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid with anti-inflammatory properties.

Baobab is best used on the skin as cold-pressed to retain all magnificent benefits, which of course, is how it is formulated in Joy Moy® Skincare.

Grapeseed Oil (Vitis Vinifera)

Ah, those luscious grapes lucky to become wine. Studies show the benefits that drinking wine (within reason) has for the body. Would you look at the time? It’s happy hour for your skin!

Proanthocyanidin and its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties in skin’s wound healing has been proven. Overall topical benefits include improving skin’s texture and progressing the scar-healing process.

Grapeseed oil has also been studied to have preventive effects against oxidative damage to DNA, namely sun damage. And grapeseed oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. All skin types – even those with sensitive skin – may use this oil. It is non-greasy and absorbs quickly into skin.

Gardenia (Gardenia Jasminoides)

Gardenias do more than act as a naturally delightful scent in skincare. They can actually benefit the skin. A major cause of aging is due to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sun exposure. This study suggests that UVB-induced oxidative stress, apoptotic cell death and inflammatory responses of skin cells can be attenuated by yellow-colored plant extracts, such as gardenia jasminoides extract, that absorb UV effectively.
